Root Beer Sauce

Root beer is one of the more famous beverages out there. It’s great on its own, but even better if you put some vanilla ice cream with it to make a root beer float. That’s not all what root beer is good for though, I found out that it’s also a great ingredient for making a barbecue sauce. That’s right, root beer as the base for a barbecue sauce. So, here’s what you need to make your Root Beer sauce:

1 cup Root Beer (I’m not brand specific, your favorite root beer will do)
1 cup tomato sauce (You can use ketchup as substitute)
1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
1/4 cup orange juice
3 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1-1/2 Tbsp dark brown sugar, packed
2 Tbsp cane Syrup
1 tsp liquid smoke
1/2 tsp lemon peel, grated
1/2 tsp ground ginger
1/2 tsp granulated garlic
1/2 tsp onion powder

All you have to do is combine all the ingredients in a saucepan. Let your concoction boil over medium heat while you stir occasionally. Once it boils, turn down the fire and let the mixture simmer for about 20 minutes or until it is reduced to 1 ½ cups. Season with salt and pepper and set it aside to cool down. It is recommended that you make this sauce about 2 weeks in advance and keep it refrigerated.
